The Common Murres migrate to these nearshore rocks just off Yaquina Head on the Oregon Coast to hatch their offspring. There was a time when humans posed the greatest threat to these birds and their habitat but now Bald Eagles have grown in number in recent years and find easy meals here of the young Murres. Once the Murres are old enough to swim, they are led by the males on a journey to British Columbia where they will learn to fly until then they have to swim against the California Current and Northerly winds to make it to their destination. That is if the Eagles don’t get them first.
Thank you to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services Project Manager Roy Lowe for sharing this location and his wealth of knowledge about the goings on in the life of Common Murres with me.

I had the honor of photographing the Sonoma County Survivors Reunion again this year. Pretty amazing event where rescuers – Dr.s, RN’s, dispatchers, paramedics, firefighters, EMTs and good samaritans come together and celebrate a life saved. This years event was held at Imagery Estate Winery in the Sonoma Valley. Henry 1, Sonoma County Sheriffs helicopter flew overhead while a crowd of nearly 200 waved. Each of the 6 survivors stood on stage with their rescuers as their stories were retold. The only way to get a second birthday, pretty amazing!
Team Swift, Sonoma County’s road racing junior development team held their “Ride the Route” the morning of the Stage 8 finish of this years Amgen Tour of California. The juniors on Team Swift had the opportunity to ride the 15 finishing miles of Stage 8 along with some of their alumni who have gone on to race in Europe, including the Tour De France.
Mendocino County Ranch, this 1300 acre gem in Southern Mendocino County has a seasonal creek running through it. Wildlife abounds, I saw a Western pond turtle swimming in the creek today and several deer enjoying the last of the green spring bloom this year. This project is for a marketing campaign that will use photos to showcase this ranch.
I have had the pleasure of shooting for the Rosati’s since 2006. My camera has been witness to the changes in seasons at the vineyard, each being unique like each vintage of cabernet from the vineyard. Here are a few images from this Spring.
Team Swift is the local junior development road racing team in Sonoma County. Headed by professional women’s cyclist Laura Charameda, Team Swift gives riders between the ages of 10-18 an incredible opportunity to develop into U.S. Pro Cyclists. These kids have heart, soul and determination that can be seen as they compete in the weekly TNT race. Sonoma County cycling roots run deep!
Honing my photography skills shooting backyard birds. The Finches making their rounds between feeding locations make a daily pit stop in my backyard. Great light this January during a lull between winter storms!
Here are a couple of photos from a family owned precision CNC shop here in Sonoma County – Ansonia. They create a wide range of parts from raw aluminum, stainless steel, iron and Delrin to service a variety of U.S. businesses. These are the jewels of the industrial age.

Back on Maui to kick off January 2013 with some underwater photography with my friends at Ed Robinson’s Diving Adventures. I never tire of coming back here, this is my 21st year diving with Ed and crew and it is never a disappointment!

Here are a few from a local high school football shoot. This was the JV game Montgomery High School Vikings vs. Maria Carrillo Pumas. Challenging but fun trying to cover the fast paced action. Echoing in my mind from my friends at Sports Shooter through out “watch your background! Crop! Don’t focus on peak action all the time!” The full gallery of images are here.
