It’s been a bit since I have spent multiple days recreational diving and what a great way to shake the cob webs off underwater photography. 3 days and 9 dives with incredible ocean conditions off the coast of Southern California. I was still reminded of the extreme challenges shooting underwater, trying to frame a subject while timing the surge and fighting the current. All the while maintaining your buoyancy and monitoring your air consumption. A bonus was seeing Giant sea bass for the first time after hundreds of dives in the Channel Islands over 40 years. They are making a strong comeback from the brink of extinction! The giant prehistoric swimming baked potato looking fish are truly gentle giants cruising the edges of the kelp forests and even showing a curious side when they do a close up swim by.
