Luck came my way while at a planned trip to Bodega Bay, on my birthday no less! A Super Blue Blood Moon was scheduled for early on the January 31st 2018. After some research into timing, position and finding a compelling foreground for this event, the last factor was the weather. Certainly not every photo […]
Here are a couple of photos from a family owned precision CNC shop here in Sonoma County – Ansonia. They create a wide range of parts from raw aluminum, stainless steel, iron and Delrin to service a variety of U.S. businesses. These are the jewels of the industrial age.

This is a video of images shot through out the year at the Rosati Family Winery. The idea behind the project was to tell a visual story of vineyard life over the course of a year. The video starts with a time lapse sequence of over 2,000 still images of sunrise over the timespan of […]
After much anticipation, planning and preparation the 2011 vintage is in! I have been working with the Rosati’s since 2006 and each year that goes by I learn more about the fine art of wine making. The vineyard is located high up on a ridge above the Russian River in Mendocino County. As harvest drew […]
I have been going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium since it opened in 1984 and never tire of the fantastic exhibits that show what life is like under the ocean off the California coast. The “Drifters Gallery” just re-opened July 2, 2011 after a makeover. This is my favorite spot to take photographs at the […]
Busy day! Made it out to the Sonoma Coast for the 2nd year on New Years Eve with the family to photograph harbor seals at the mouth of the Russian river. This year the rain swollen Russian river re-aligned itself and pushed through the sand bar, leaving a 1/2 mile wide mushroom of brown silty […]
I spent the morning at the Rosati Family Winery and Ranch. I have been working with the Rosati’s for the last 5 years photographing family, ranch life and of course the vineyard and wine. Today marks the beginning of a new project to chronicle a year in the life of the vineyard. The vineyard at […]
New website is coming to life with lots of new images and blog posts….. I’m in the process of collecting/organizing thousands of images including scans from the bygone days of slide film and will be post dating entries. This is taking quite a bit of time but should be worth the wait! Check back from […]
2010 Rosati Family Winery Harvest This assignment covered shooting the harvest at the Rosati Family Winery and then following the grapes to Saracina Estate Winery for sorting. The challenge with covering a harvest was how little room there is to maneuver to get a clear shot of the workers. The vines were at their peak […]
Where to put all your images so they are safe? Data backup is paramount for any photographer, so to keep my images safe I use a Drobo that has four 2TB hard drives for nearly 6TB of storage space (the other 2TB is in reserve/redundancy). Drobo continually monitors for errors, keeping my photos safe. On […]
In January a dive shop owner in Maui was chatting with a friend who had been fishing and was complaining about “fish hiding under a wing”. This caught the divers attention and soon with GPS coordinates in hand and well kept secret off shores of Maui was out. A World War II era Helldiver aircrat […]
Rosati Family Winery needed a group shot of their cabernet vintages. Shooting black bottles is challenging due to the reflective nature of the bottles. For this shot I used two studio lights, one set one stop less than the other. A white background was used so all attention was focused on the bottles. This also […]
